Have you ever asked yourself which side of the spiritual warfare that goes on in all our hearts and minds you are on? There are so many wars going on in the world that we can often be torn in many directions. But what is the most important war we must fight? The most important war we must fight is for out own souls and the souls of men.How do we do that?
1 Tim 1:18 and 19 reads: “This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, having faith and good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith, have suffered shipwreck.”
So, how do we fight the good fight? First of all, I should say the ones in our passage, as found in the next verse, were Hymenaeus and Alexander, who were delivered to Satan so they would learn not to blaspheme, which means they were thrown under the Satan’s influence until they learned to be more Christlike, I think. Learning how to be more like the Savior by learning just how bad Satan really was, in a way.
So, we too must fight against the evil forces of this life by keeping the faith and having a good conscience. How do we keep the faith? By never giving up despite the sin in the world and being sure that we are on the right side and by learning how the bible defines faith (Heb 11:1). And how do we have a good conscience? By confessing our sins either privately to God,as the bible teaches we should do in 1 John 1:7, or to one another as the bible also teaches we should do in James 5:16.
To have these privileges we must first obey Jesus in Baptism as He tells us to do in Mathew 28:18-20. The bible teaches that God hears the prayers of the righteous (James 5:16) and not those that remain in their sins (John 15:7 , if one does not hear Jesus’ words then the opposite is true: they’re prayers will not be answered). So if you have not obeyed the gospel (see plan of Salvation above) you should do so at the earliest opportunity, so that you can be sure you are on the right side of the spiritual warfare that goes on in all of our hearts and minds.
God bless and keep you until next time.
