When the evangelist Phillip asked the Ethiopian Eunuch if he understood what he read while the Eunuch read from the book of Isiah, he answered “How can I, except some man should guide me?”(Acts 8:31). While it is important that we all learn to study and understand the scriptures for ourselves, at first it is often important that someone help us to understand how to learn to study the scriptures for ourselves and what the bible says we must do to be saved.
There are many different denominations in the world today that make the whole issue of understanding the bible and especially the plan of salvation confusing and when we choose someone with whom to study the bible with, we must choose someone who will back up everything they say with book, chapter and verse from the bible.
The bible teacher must not depart from God’s word by teaching what the scriptures say and not what some human creed book says. Most of the denominations in the world today do not even wear Christ’s name but instead are named after some founder or bible teacher when Jesus, as I have mentioned, is the king whom we serve (Colossians 1:3) and the head of His church (Colossians 1:18) and so the church should bear His name and HIs name only.
Not only do denominations not bear the name of Christ, but they practice many things that are not found in scripture or that are even contrary to what the scriptures say and so are not the one true Church that Jesus founded. They also have written their own creed books rather than turning to the bible itself to learn the truth and how to live for God.
These creed books themselves inevitably depart from the real truth and add human philosophies and the like. So, to guide one in the scriptures one needs to find someone who will not depart from the scriptures and who can point out those most important scriptures that everyone must know and act on to be saved.
I have included a link to a bible correspondence course that I think will give someone who is unfamiliar with the bible a good start in his or her personal bible study. It is distributed by a Church of Christ in Huntsville, Alabama and I am currently taking the course myself to be sure I can recommend it to others.
For now I have posted the link and am fairly sure it teaches the truth as it is also recommended by the preacher where I worship. If I find as I take the course that they depart from what is written I will quickly remove the link, but for now I think it is a good course to take for someone who wants to ger started in their own bible study and even for those who need brush up or keep the word ever before them.
Until next time, may God bless you and keep you.
