Old Testament Studies

Since we live under the New Testament law of Christ, one might ask the question: why study the old testament at all. The answer can be found in Romans 15: 4, which reads: “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.” This verse tells us that there is much to learn in the old testament scriptures. They teach us patience and give us comfort and build our faith by giving us the hope and knowledge of how God has dealt with His people (specifically the ancient Jews) throughout history. Be Merciful

Did you ever stop to think just how merciful God is toward us? He sent His son to die on the cross that we may have forgiveness of our sins and when we live godly, faithful lives, taking advantage of His grace fully by obeying Him, we can receive the reward of heaven for eternity. He didn’t have to offer this to the human family, but He did and that shows just how merciful He is and His great love for us. Continue reading

God is Almighty

Our dog daisy, whose picture you can see in my about page, is a seven-year old dappled colored dachshund. She is currently having trouble with her back as so many dachshunds do when they reach middle age. It is getting so bad with her that she might need surgery that will run in the thousands of dollars, which I cannot afford to spend on her. She often, lately, looks at me with big, trusting eyes as if to ask why I am not helping her get better. Continue reading

A Good Example

“Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world” (Philippians 2:14,15). The world in Paul’s time he characterized as crooked and perverse. Is it any different in our time? We are to shine as lights in a world that is otherwise full of darkness. We can do this by keeping the commandments of God and thus showing this crooked world the straight and narrow path that leads to life and salvation. Continue reading

Giving Tuesday

Today is called Giving Tuesday. Now that the greed of Black Friday and Cyber Monday is over (which I don’t participate in) we can turn to others and give to our favorite charity. We should all be ready to help others at any time and it is good to have a day when we can be reminded to give to charity, but be careful to give to a reputable one as there is some abuse and we want to see our donations going to the intended parties. Giving is also a bible topic that we can consider. Continue reading
