When Do We Need God?

Too many people in this world turn to God only when times are hard and tend to forget Him when things are going well for them. The children of Israel, as recorded in the book of Judges, made this mistake over and over again in their history as a nation. Heaven

So, what is heaven really like? No one knows exactly what heaven is like but the bible gives us some clues. Our preacher often says it is a place that is so wonderful that it is beyond our comprehension. This is certainly so because we cannot fully imagine what the realm beyond this life and our physical existence is like, but we are promised a place of sweet rest and relief from all the cares and troubles that beset us in this life. Speaking To One Another

Paul wrote in Ephesians 5:18,19: “And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”  This is one way we are to speak to one another about the things of God. He, in His wisdom, commands us to do so and singing hymns should be a part of how we worship God, as it is one of the acts of worship as authorized by God (see post “One True Church” under category “Worship”). God declared that we should do so probably because it is one way we can enrich our lives with scriptural teachings and because He wants us to raise our voices to Him in praise. Continue reading

The Word Endures Forever

The Apostle Peter quoted Isaiah in 1 Peter 1:24,25 with the following: “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, But the word of the Lord endures forever.” All that we know in this life will one day be destroyed (2 Peter 3:10), yet the Word of God will continue forever. This is one way of saying that what God has spoken through the scriptures stands the test of time and will never be obsolete or our of style. Continue reading

Putting God first

In the busy hustle and bustle of daily living it is often easy to forget God and with the myriad of things we have to deal with in our lives it is not always easy to keep our priorities straight. If we learn to put God and our service to Him first and make it top priority, we find that everything falls into place. We find that with God first everything has more meaning and purpose and we can live fuller, happier lives as a result. Continue reading
