Psalm 19

This is one of the most popular and beloved of all the Psalms. We have a song that we sing quite often in services that uses verses 7 though 10 to create a beautiful hymn. The Psalm starts out proclaiming the glory of God and how all of creation day and night speaks to us of Him and of His glory. Creation speaks to us of the glory of God throughout all the earth and language is no barrier as it speaks in a language understood by all. The Psalm goes on to speak of the law of the Lord, or His word, through which he speaks to us in a way we can all likewise understand. Continue reading

Life Without God

It would be impossible for there to be life without God. He is the creator and maintainer of all that we can see or know in this life. I used to wonder if He just created this universe and set it in motion leaving it to run its own course except what He has revealed in His word, but I should have known better. In fact, the bible is full of references to the way in which God keeps His hand in all that is going on in the earth, from setting up kingdoms and governments to maintaining the universe itself.  Continue reading

Old Age Quirks

When we start to get a little older in this life we find that it is more difficult to maintain our health than when we were younger. We get all kinds of aches and pains and seem susceptible to illness more, always seeming to have some cold or allergy problem or stomach bug or something. The old body just doesn’t seem to work as well anymore and we feel it. The opposite can seem true in our spiritual life. Continue reading

Common Sense

“Common Sense” was a pamphlet published by Thomas Paine in 1775 that argued that it made sense for the citizens of the Thirteen Colonies to thrown off the tyrannical rule of the king of England and set up a government based on democracy. It went a long way in convincing them to revolt and inspired many to fight in the ensuing revolutionary war that brought this government about. The bible is a document written by the Holy Spirit that argues that it makes sense for  people of all nations to throw off the oppressive rule of Satan in their lives and submit to the kingdom of God.  Continue reading

Rejoice In the Lord!

“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4). This passage has the weight of a command and not just  a request. We are commanded to rejoice in the Lord always, but one might ask what does it mean to rejoice and what are we to rejoice in?
