Psalm 145

The Psalms teach us much about God and Psalm 145 is an excellent example. It is called a Praise of David and indeed is the last Psalm attributed to Him. In it David shows how we may praise God. He says to God that he will bless Him and praise Him forever and ever and that He is great and greatly to be praised and that His greatness is unsearchable (NKJV). We, as humble human beings, are limited in what we can know about God and His greatness, yet by looking around us we can see all the greatness of His creation and know that He is worthy of all the praise we can possibly give Him. The Psalm goes on to tell us more about our God and King. Continue reading

Psalm 2

Image result for Psalm 2

At the lectures the speaker called this Psalm a “royal” Psalm in that it speaks of the pressure David must have felt as king of Israel. It was probably written by David about the time He first became king of Israel and felt pressure as the forces around him sought to test the new king and perhaps overthrow his kingdom because of his inexperience. It was certainly written in this context, but can also be seen as a Messianic Psalm or prophecy that speaks of the age of Christ as He rules over His kingdom now in these latter days (Hebrews 1:2). I will consider it from the prospective of modern times so that we may see how it applies to us today. Continue reading

Psalm 1

Psalm 1 is considered a wisdom Psalm. It is a lot like passages found in the book of proverbs and compares the wise man, who is happy, godly and delights in the law of the Lord to the foolish man, if you will, who is ungodly and cannot stand in the day of judgment. It serves, probably along with Psalm 2, as an introduction to the entire book of 150 Psalms and lets us know what it takes to be blessed or happy (the Hebrew word means happy) not unlike Jesus teaches in the beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-11). It is something everyone should consider and take to heart as much as on the day it was written. Continue reading

The Psalms

Well, the 2016 edition of the Florida College Lectures is in the books. The theme this year was “You Are My God; The Psalms.” We listened to sixteen lectures over a four day period and sang with the throngs for an hour and a half total. I must admit that I never fully realized just how important the Psalms should be to every Christian who is trying to get to know our God and our Savior and serve Them to the best of their ability. The Psalms tell us more about God than perhaps any other single book of the bible and even though it is about the God that Israel knew long ago, He has not changed and indeed will never change, nor can He change.. Florida College Lectureship

Next week I will be attending the annual lectureship series at Florida College located in Temple Terrace (Tampa), Florida. Florida College is a four year, fully accredited college that was founded by Christians and run by Christians but is fully financed by individuals and tuition, accepting no donations from churches, which would be unscriptural since we have no pattern of church money being spent for such in the New Testament.Still, it is a good place for young people to study both the bible and other liberal arts subjects in an environment that is all about God and is full of examples or roll models for them to follow.
